In Wales, the Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention (SSHP) lived experience frameworks focus on embedding peer support, public feedback, and personal capability into a compassionate open access mental health care model.
Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) and NHS Performance and Improvement (NHS P&I) are actively developing a strategic plan for lived and living experiences. The framework transitions away from complex care pathways towards Stepped Care 2.0 and relationship-centered peer support.
Silence Speaks joined the group for a workshop during February 2026 to begin a journey of contribution and collaboration moving forward.
To find out more about the history of the NHS Wales People’s Experience Framework, or to read the SSHP Docs in relation to NHS Wales’ Strategic Programme for Mental Health, you can find the links for each document below.
The Welsh Government's Suicide Prevention Strategy ("Understanding") features "Listening and Learning" as a foundational pillar, designed to use lived experience testimony to guide policies and services.
This framework ensures that NHS Wales captures real-time, transparent feedback from individuals who use services so care can be actively co-designed by way of a collaborative approach.
