Talks & Workshops

At the age of 6 years old, I lost my father to suicide.

I don’t recall much from the days that followed, apart from the silence.

In the years that followed, the bad decisions, the destructive behaviours, all of the external events that were simultaneously spiralling out of control, were masking over two deep, underlying, unanswered questions -

“Why him?” & “Why me?”

34 years have passed, & as my understanding of trauma, mental health conditions, grief, & suicidality has grown, so to has the number of lives lost to causes like these each year. Mental Health support is certainly improving, but there is only so much that can be learnt or taught through a textbook or powerpoint.

That’s why we are here: to educate, to improve the psychological literacy & empathic understanding of our groups - so that they feel empowered to actively engage in challenging conversations, by learning through an integrated approach to mental health & wellbeing. You don’t always have to experience something to know what it feels like, but we can help you or your team to develop a deeper understanding in any of the areas that we specialise in, listed below.

When we challenge the narrative, we redefine the purpose.

For him

Welcome to where Silence Speaks Up

Area’s that we specialise in, but are not limited to, include -

  • What is stress? How do we cope with stress in healthy & unhealthy ways? How does stress effect the body & mind? How can I identify stressors & respond effectively to reduce them?

What do we know about burnout? How do we identify signs in ourselves? Or in others? Stages, Signs & Symptoms.

Your wellbeing - Strategies, Coping Techniques & understanding the difference between stress, & distress.

  • When it comes to suicide, there are two groups of people. Those who have been affected by suicide, & those who haven’t. Based on my experience, this can be broken down further into those that have considered it themself, & those who haven’t.

Suicide still remains a leading cause of deaths across the UK, & worldwide, defying cultural or societal differences.

Suicide Assistance courses provide guidance on how to respond to those who display signs of suicidality, but what about those who don’t display such signals or warnings signs? Passive suicidality experienced by a perfectly functioning individual?

  • Anxiety Disorders, Depression, OCD, ADHD

Understanding signs, symptoms, overlap with similar disorders (PTSD, BPD, etc), & learning how to empathically understand how each condition ‘feels’.

Suitable for those interested in developing a deeper understanding of living with, or supporting someone with any of the conditions covered.

  • More than 53,000 people died in the Turkey/Syria earthquakes of 2023, with 3.3 million people left homeless following the tragedy. 2 years on, it was found that 41% of adult survivors went on to show signs of PTSD.

Why were 59% adverse to such signs & symptoms? What were the contributing risk factors for those diagnosed? & how does what we can learn from such studies extend to the homes & residents within any community.

If you need support to understand the mechanisms, responses, & development of trauma across the lifespan, then please reach out to take part in a talk that is truly trauma informed.
